Karin Helmstaedt is a Canadian-born journalist, moderator, and TV host based in Berlin, Germany. She studied Physical and Health Education at the University of Toronto before focusing on Literary Studies, which subsequently took her to Montreal and Paris.

Alongside her studies Karin had an impressive international career as a member of Canada’s National Swim Team, participating in World Championships, Commonwealth and Pan American Games. It was from the international sporting arena that she embarked on her journalistic career, covering major sporting events, reporting extensively on doping, and eventually moving into broadcasting.

Since 1999 she’s been one of the most constant faces on Germany’s global TV broadcaster Deutsche Welle. She hosted the news magazine “Germany Today,” before taking on the network’s flagship culture and lifestyle magazine “Euromaxx,”  which she now moderates in English and German. Over the years she has interviewed a broad range of personalities including politicians, actors, directors, authors, athletes, chefs and musicians. She now draws on all that experience for her additional post as a live Culture Correspondent for DW’s English News.

Fluent in English, German and French, Karin is also a sought-after moderator, facilitator and consultant for conferences and events around Europe. Her clients include multinational companies, associations and EU institutions, all of whom appreciate her professional, friendly and authentic style. She has experience in a wide range of sectors including communications, food and agriculture, human resources and rail transport.
